La Carte de Tupaia
Notre BSEO n°348 est une édition spéciale entièrement consacré à l’étude et l’analyse de la carte de Tupaia, fruit d’un travail de recherche remarquable effectué par M. Lars ECKSTEIN et Mme Anja SCHWARZ, professeurs de littérature et de civilisation postcoloniales à l’Institut d’Études Anglaises et Américaines à l’université de Potsdam en Allemagne.
Déjà paru en anglais dans The Journal of Pacific History en 2018, sous le titre The Making of Tupaia’s Map: A Story of the Extent and Mastery of Polynesian Navigation, Competing Systems of Wayfinding on James Cook’s Endeavour, and the Invention of an Ingenious Cartographic System, il est maintenant accessible aux lecteurs et chercheurs francophones grâce à la traduction en français de M. Serge DUNIS.
En plus de la version imprimée, M. ECKSTEIN et Mme SCHWARZ ont demandé que le travail de traduction soit fourni en libre accès à tous sous son format numérique pour une large diffusion. Tupaia’s Map
Our BSEO n°348 is a special edition dedicated in its entirety to the analysis and interpretation of Tupaia’s Map. It presents the results of a remarkable research project conducted by Lars ECKSTEIN and Anja SCHWARZ, professors of Anglophone literary studies and cultural studies at the University of Potsdam in Germany.
Their work originally appeared in English in late 2018 in the Journal of Pacific History, under the title The Making of Tupaia’s Map: A Story of the Extent and Mastery of Polynesian Navigation, Competing Systems of Wayfinding on James Cook’s Endeavour, and the Invention of an Ingenious Cartographic System. It is now accessible to readers and researchers in the Francophone world, thanks to the French translation by Serge DUNIS.
In addition to the print version, Lars ECKSTEIN and Anja SCHWARZ requested that the translation of their work, like the English original, is published ‘open access’ to be able to circulate widely. Available for download free of charge, you can now access the content (without back and front cover) of our BSEO n°348 below.

Unser BSEO n°348 ist eine Sonderausgabe, die gänzlich Tupaias Karte gewidmet ist. Sie präsentiert die Ergebnisse der bemerkenswerten Forschungsarbeit von Herrn Lars ECKSTEIN und Frau Anja SCHWARZ, beide Professor*innen für anglophone Literaturwissenschaft und Kulturwissenschaft an der Universität Potsdam.
Ihre Arbeit erschien zunächst im englischen Original im Journal of Pacific History Ende 2018, unter dem Titel The Making of Tupaia’s Map: A Story of the Extent and Mastery of Polynesian Navigation, Competing Systems of Wayfinding on James Cook’s Endeavour, and the Invention of an Ingenious Cartographic System. Sie ist nun auch für französischsprachige Leser und Forschende zugänglich, dank der Übersetzung von Herrn Serge Dunis.
Zusätzlich zur Druckversion erbaten sich Herr ECKSTEIN und Frau SCHWARZ, dass der französische Langessay, ebenso wie das englische Original, im Open-Access-Format publiziert werden solle um eine möglichst breite Leserschaft zu erreichen. Der Inhalt unseres BSEO n°348 (ohne Umschlag) kann daher nun unten gratis heruntergeladen werden.
