La Société des Études Océaniennes organise une Conférence publique animée par la Dr Jane Freeman Moulin, professeure d’Ethno-Musicologie à l’Université de Hawai’i à Manoa (UHM), de passage à Tahiti, ce jeudi 20 février dans la salle de conférence de la DCP (Direction de la Culture et du Patrimoine) à partir de 15h30. Le sujet de sa conférence porte sur le sujet suivant « Gods and Mortals : le Monde de la Musique aux îles Marquises ».
Dr. Jane Freeman Moulin is Professor of Ethnomusicology at the University of Hawai‘i. She is the author of over 50 articles and books on the performative arts of French Polynesia, including The Dance of Tahiti, Music in the Southern Marquesas Islands, and Music in Pacific Island Cultures: Experiencing Music, Expressing Culture. As the Primary Researcher for the UNESCO Territorial Study of Oceania Music project in the Marquesas Islands, she recorded and documented over 740 songs and received a special commendation from the Marquesan cultural organization Motu Haka. Her international award-winning dissertation, founded on that UNESCO fieldwork, focused on the music, dance, and oral poetry of the Marquesas Islands. A former resident of Tahiti and dancer with Tahiti’s top professional groups (Te Maeva and Tahiti Nui), she has performed in five years of Tahiti’s Heiva competition and is impassioned by both the study and the performance of Pacific music and dance.
